CCI Large Rifle Magnum Large rifle primers will work in battery cups but shotgun primers are NOT just large rifle primers in a battery cup. SG primers have a very long anvil that does not seat in a primer pocket as metallic cartridge primers do.Deprime just the battery cup primer from a deprimed shotgun shell with a pin punch to see the difference. You can expect some duds when trying to shoot LR primers in a battery cup.
the all brass shotgun shells I am reloading use a large pistol primer. The same gage plastic hulls use the shot shell primer No. 209.
You may cross check the load data and find the powder and shot loads are the same. If so, you might find that a pistol primer would safely work. This would be useful information in these times of shortage. Please let us know if all this works out and you do not need a new shotgun.
